Japan Run
The Japan Run is a four mile mini-marathon, supported by New York Road Runners. It is anticipated that 3,500 to 5,000 people will participate in this kickoff event for the first-ever Japan Day @ Central Park.
A traditional Japanese Shishimai (Lion Dance) will be performed before the run to raise runners’ spirits; the Japan Run will start at 8 a.m., with kids’ races starting at 9:30 a.m. After the race, there will be an award ceremony and many exciting raffle prizes.

New York Road Runners, soon to celebrate its 50th anniversary, is dedicated to promoting the sport of distance running, enhancing health and fitness for all, and responding to community needs. Our road races and other fitness programs draw upwards of 300,000 runners annually, and together with our magazine and Web site support and promote professional and recreational running. A staff of 75, assisted by thousands of volunteers, stages the ING New York City Marathon, as well as a road race nearly every weekend plus many track and cross country events. NYRR's home base in New York, and its lifelong identification with Central Park, have given many of its events iconic status, attracting the world's top professional runners. Our youth programs provide running to 15,000 New York City schoolchildren who would otherwise have few or no fitness opportunities. For more information visit www.nyrr.org.
Joining NYRR provides many valuable benefits and savings. Individuals who are NYRR members by January 31 of a given year, complete nine qualifying races within the same calendar year, and continue their membership the following year will be eligible for guaranteed entry into that (second) year's ING New York City Marathon.
