Since 2009, Japan Day, in partnership with the Central Park Conservancy, has collected donations to plant new cherry trees in Central Park, supplementing and replacing the trees from Japan's original gift over one hundred years ago.
Please visit our Charity Tent on the day of the event to donate to this initiative! With your donation of $20 or more, you will receive a Japan Day original T-shirt, featuring original artwork by the winner of Japan Day Art Contest.
All donations collected at the Charity Tent will go to the Central Park Conservancy, to plant new cherry trees in Central Park. Japan Day has donated a total of 18 cherry trees since 2009. Additional 4 cherry trees were generously donated by the Central Park Conservancy in 2011 to commemorate the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.
This year, the reporter of "FCI News Catch!," Melodee Morita will help and support the Cherry Tree Planting initiative as a SAKURA Ambassador.
Messege from Melodee --- I am very grateful to be a part of Japan Day 2015 as the Sakura Ambassador! Over 50,000 people attend this event every year, and it is such an incredible opportunity to experience a variety of unique activities and performances to get a deeper understanding of Japanese culture. Sakura, or cherry blossoms, are one of the most well-known symbols of Japan, and there are sakura trees in Central Park gifted by the Japanese more than 100 years ago. Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated, but if you kindly make a contribution of $20, you will receive this year's Japan Day T-shirt as well. Please drop by the charity booth if you would like to support the Cherry Tree Planting, and I hope you will enjoy Japan Day to its fullest! can't wait to see all of you there! :)
