TENT

Japan Day's activity tents include a variety of fun and family-friendly Japanese activities, while our food tents offer free samples of mouth-watering Japanese cuisine.


Japan Day is currently seeking for organizations and groups who are interested in participating as an activity or food tent organizer on a volunteer basis. The event is expected to be held at the Bandshell and Rumsey Playfield, Central Park. The date is yet to be determined but is expected to be in May 2016, and we will announce the date on our website as soon as it’s set! Please note that not all applicants can be selected due to the space limitations of the venue, the event budget and the Park regulations. Please see below for the details: 


1 ) FOOD TENT ORGANIZER

----- To qualify, applicants must:

a. Be able to provide approximately 1,500 meals for distribution. 

b. Be able to bring most of your own tools/equipment to run your tent that are also suitable for the Park regulations. (*No uncooked food or cooking over open flame is allowed. Electronic cooking must be discussed and approved by the event general manager and the Park. The space and location will be determined by the Park administration.)

c. Be able to provide a tent leader as well as at least half the number of staff you will need to run your tent.

 

2 ) ACTIVITY TENT ORGANIZERS

1. Japanese Cultural Experience

------To qualify, applicants must:

a. Be able to provide activities that are family-friendly and easy to actively participate in for all ages. 

b. Be able to provide a tent leader as well as at least half the number of staff you need to run your tent.

c. Be able to supply goods or materials needed for the participation of more than 500 people throughout the day.

d. Ensure that all elements and materials used in the tent and activity are suitable for use in the Park. (*Please be aware that the details of your activity need to be discussed and approved by the event general manager and the Park. The space and location for each tent will be determined by the Park administration.) 

 

2. Japanese Technology Presentation

------To qualify, applicants must:

a. Be able to provide activities that are family-friendly and easy to actively participate in for all ages. 

b. Be able to provide a tent leader as well as at least half the number of staff you need to run your tent.

c. Be able to supply goods or materials needed for the participation of more than 500 people throughout the day.

d. Ensure that all elements and materials used in the tent and activity are suitable for use in the Park. (*Please be aware that the details of your activity need to be discussed and approved by the event general manager and the Park. 

e. Be able to do a presentation of a product containing technology developed in Japan, as it will be presented at the tent designated to introduce Japanese technology.

f. Be able to provide activities and/or a presentation that the visitors can participate in and learn from. 

g. Follow the instructions of the Project Liaison Office and the Park administration regarding the regulated use of electricity and other related equipment. 

h. Be aware of a space limitation and be cooperative with other presenters. The tent (approximately 20'-30' long - details to be determined) will include presentations by several organizations at the same time. 

i. Be able to provide a product and/or conduct a presentation that can tolerate the outdoor environment and weather, such as dust, dirt and wind. 

j. Be able to cover the costs for transporting the product and/or presentation materials to the venue, presenting, providing presentation staff, and anything else related to the applicant's participation in Japan Day.
